Bear a Resemblance to FATHER?
Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders

All of us, as children or maybe adults, have heard someone comment on us looking like a parent, or maybe our children looking just like us. Maybe they had the same nose, the same color hair or eyes, or maybe even seemed to be a picture of us when we were younger.

For the Christian, we have a Heavenly Father. Do we resemble him? Could others tell that we are one of his own?

As a child of our parents, we are instructed to honor thy father and mother. We are also to honor GOD the Heavenly Father.

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [ is ] the first commandment

God is a God of love. If we are to be 'like him', then we are to love as HE loves.

I John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God ; and every one that loveth is born of God , and knoweth God . 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God ; for God is love .

We are instructed to keep his commandments.

I John 5:3 For this is the love of God , that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

We are instructed to love our neighbor.

Mark 12:31 And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Do we measure up to what GOD is?

I Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy ; for I am holy .

HE is the most HOLY.........do we measure up? Not within ourselves, no. BUT if his Spirit is living within us, then we should act as Christ, for we are the vessel which houses His Spirit! If we let the Spirit lead our lives, then we will 'resemble Christ', just as our children resemble their earthly Mother and Father. We will love as Christ loves, without reservations, without judgmental attitudes, without showing prejudices, and many of the others attributes of a most unholy human.

If you can't find a resemblance to your Heavenly Father within you, it would be wise to call upon his Name, to ask him to re-model the clay pot - to make you a shining vessel that will shine forth his marvelous light, that others will see CHRIST in you.

Heavenly Father, I thank you that your love is within my heart, that I share a compassion for people, and that you lead, guide and direct my paths. I cannot be righteous on my own, but with your Spirit guiding me, then I am most Holy. I give you PRAISE for all you have done in my life. I will ever honor you and glorify your name. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
