Eternity On The Horizon Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Death isn't what we like to think of any time of the day. Although we know that it's appointed unto all of us to die some day, nevertheless, it's not a thought we on which we want to dwell.
I am sure none of us go to bed, or awake in the wee hours of the morning, telling God we're ready to go home, or asking permission.
A life was snuffed out this past week in our front yard, a very tragic thing to have happen on your own lawn, within sight each time you drive out of your driveway. I am sure death was not on this
man's mind, as his truck caught the side of the power pole, careening him down a small embankment, heading toward trees on our lawn. He came to rest between those trees, hitting one head-on, living only a short time, breathing his last
breathe, going home to Father, whatever his spiritual shape was at the moment. None of us know the time appointed to us. We need to always be ready, and aware that God can decide the moment at any time.
Within the spiritual realm, we need to think of death, for death sets us apart from the living. Each day, we die to self, in order to live with God.

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
To those that don't understand what is meant here, it sounds like things are 'backwards'. We 'have to die' in order 'to live' - quite strange for someone just happening upon that
verse, with no teaching on the subject. It's simple, though, in that, the fleshly man has desires, wants, etc, that aren't productive to the Kingdom of God. These things have to be brought
under subjection to the Holy Spirit. Therefore, our spirit has to die, in order that HIS Spirit can dwell within us, leading, guiding, and directing our daily lives. The more 'dead' we are
to the things of this life, the 'more alive' we are to the working of the Holy Spirit within our lives.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

If you have things in your life that you can't release, don't hesitate to ask the Father for help. He knows your circumstances, and He's there waiting for you to come to Him.
| Heavenly Father, we know that each of us face death from the moment of death. Death will only escape those of us alive at the time of rapture.
Help each of us to die to self daily, in order to live closer to your will in our lives. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. |
