Changing Times - Unchanging God Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Everywhere you look, things are changing. People seem to be in a hurry wherever they are going, or whatever they are doing. What we want, we wanted yesterday. We don't want to wait for anything.
The churches have changed over the years since I've been born. I was looking over an appreciation book given to all the people at the church last Sunday where I attended all my young life. I was brought up in the church, my father's parents
having been two of the charter members. Mother and I reminisced about the days of long ago and about the older people who have gone on before us. I often wonder what they would think about the way church is conducted today, if they were to return?
Traditional hymn books have been mostly taken from the church pews. The music is nothing like it used to be, and more and more pianos are being replaced with keyboards and CD's.
Don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with keyboards and CD's, but everything has it's place. I suppose I was brought up in an era when there was nothing better than a beautiful song, sung to piano music, ringing to the rafters, rejoicing the
Lord. It's hard for me to sit through singing, with songs I'm unfamiliar with, that do not reach me or make me feel like worshipping God to the fullest. It distracts from my worshipping. I've got yet to figure out just what is wrong with the hymns, considering most
of the people we all know - the over-forty generation or perhaps younger, and the ones gone on, sang and rejoiced in the Lord with those very songs. They still move people today, when they are sung. And it's a great loss to the younger generation, not learning the
hymns of their ancestors.
No matter how much people change, or the church changes, or the music goes beyond what we want, GOD never changes. He's the same yesterday, today, and forever, because He said so in His Word. He's there, ready to take us under his wings, whenever
we need consoling. His Word and the Holy Spirit is our link with him in our lives, constantly. His Word is our guide, and the Holy Spirit is our teacher. He always answers prayers; perhaps he doesn't answer them the way we want or in our time frame, but as someone said today,
He always answers, and He is never, ever late!
Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
| Heavenly Father, when all the world is changing, we know we can rely on you. Help us to put our complete trust in you. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. |
