The Price of Bread Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
The price of food has skyrocketed in the years I've been buying for my household. Bread, for one, has probably trippled. _Fresh bread_ from major bread companies has become so high, that lots of stores have
their own cheaper brand, although seemingly as good of taste as the more known brands. I have certainly bought cheaper brands, when the bread is fresh. I haven't noticed the difference, too much, in the taste, and the price is more economical to
my billfold!
Bread is a 'staple', and also one of the food groups of which we make choices every day, in order to have good health. It's very tasty, nourishing, and it certainly can add to your 'body measurements'. To make the bread, you use flour and other dry ingredients,
including a leavening ingredient. One of the definitions in the dictionary for leavening is: To pervade with a lightening, enlivening, or modifying influence. To pervade, means to permeate every part.
1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
The _bread of life_, God's Word, is fulfilling. It will change you from the 'leavened' person (one who has been 'modified', whether by listening to public opinion, doing your own thing, unbelief in God) you have been into one where the Word of God permeates your very being.
It will make you a 'new creature in Christ', and get you started on the true and straight path to eternity. This 'BREAD' is free for the taking, and is life-changing. There will never be a price put on it, for the price has already been paid on the Cross of Calvary by Christ Jesus. He gave his life for us,
paid the ultimate price, that we could receive Grace by faith.
| Heavenly Father, thank you for the bread of life, and the promise that we will never be hungry. Help all of us to come to you and be permeated with your true Word. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. |
