Has America Lost Her Conscience?

America, the beautiful....land of the free - freedom!! That's what this country has become, a land of freedoms. We were guaranteed, through the First Amendment, the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression. Seems we have blown this all out of proportion. Its been taken to extremes.

Freedom, itself, means being free of restraints, in possession of civil rights. Now, it's okay for freedoms our forefathers never dreamed we would have - say anything, print anything, do anything! Children are taught, early in life, lying is okay. Why? We do it in front of them. They are taught adultery is fine; the parents run around on one another, and the kids find out. They don't have a happy home life from which to pattern their future marriages. Sexual promisicuity is fine; get pregnant and have an abortion! Cheat on your taxes - pray you won't get caught. Tell a child to obey the law, and, then, you run a red light, exceed the speed limit. Some curse the cops, while trying to make the children believe that the cops protect our freedoms. Where is America going, folks?

We have lost our conscience; our morals are on a downward decline. The movies, rated PG, are getting to the point they are not fit for a child to watch. Children aren't safe left unattended in front of the television anymore. You have to have a lock on different television stations, because of what they might hear or see after a certain hour. Prime time isn't limited to after nine anymore; anything goes before nine. And, it is getting worse. The children are learning very early in life about things that the older generations didn't know when we became adults. The world has become so promiscious in it's actions, that children aren't safe even in schools anymore.

Prayer and the ten commandments were taken out of the schools - separation of church and state. The gun laws have been made tough and getting tougher for the non-criminal; yet, the criminal can get a gun quicker than you and I can, never having had a record! The parents were told years ago it was wrong to spank a child; lots bought it. Now, we have schools that children can't pray in, and they are becoming less safe to be in. Our children are getting shot by 'our children' - when will we wake up to the real cause of this? Children have been taught in early grammar school to turn in their parents, if they aren't satisfied with how they are brought up; in other words, they holler 'parent abuse', if they are swatted on the behind - parents pay the price, or do they? Actually, I think time will tell our children are paying the price - look at what has happened in schools like Columbine and others, where those teenagers, who had access to guns and other materials unfit for children, walk in an gun down one of their own, in cold blood.

It's time to wake up, people, and regain our conscience. We have to teach our children that life isn't all bad, although it may bring with it things that don't meet our fancy at one time or another. We don't take it out on others, when we are not satisfied. We learn to live life, one day at a time, learn from our mistakes, and take responsibility for our actions. Life is not a bed of roses, without the thorns. Thorns prick our skin, but it makes us tougher, when we learn how to handle them with care. Let's teach our children that sins aren't hidden; there is an all seeing eye watching our every move. Conscience is to be desired; otherwise, anything goes!
