Count Your Blessings Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Proverbs 10:6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

We take too many things for granted-the air we breathe, the water we drink, the automobile we drive. And, that's where I found my blessing today.
Usually, on Friday morning, I go to my Mother's, have breakfast with her, do a few things for her in the house, and, then, we sit and crochet and talk until I have to leave. Well, today started out
just like any other Friday morning. But, it didn't proceed to be just like all other Friday mornings.
Our car has been 'acting up' for awhile, but nothing serious. Mother and I were supposed to take a trip to Georgia this week, but things came up that kept us from going. And, as she said today, "Perhaps it happened for a reason, to keep
us off the road this week." If we had gone, then my car would have broken down somewhere between here and Georgia, and two women would have been stranded on the road and at the mercy of whomever came to our aid. But, as it was, my car decided to come to
a halt in my Mother's drive way, after the water pump broke, and blew a piece off that sounded like a big rock hitting underneath my car. Then, my power steering was gone. I barely got around the curves and into my Mother's driveway. Then, I discovered I had
antifreeze running out from under the car. My husband had to come rescue me, and call the wrecker to pull the car to a garage. Looking back, I thank the Lord for that blessing - that we weren't on a busy interstate highway, in bad traffic, when that happened.
Otherwise, I might not be writing this today.
Blessings come to us in all different ways. We may receive a blessing that doesn't appear a blessing to us at the time. Most people wouldn't take what happened to me today as a blessing. But, knowing what could have happened, and seeing what
did happen, I consider it a blessing.
The song playing says, "Count your blessings, count them one by one; count your blessings, see what God hath done." Have you counted your blessings lately? Do you really know what God has done in your life, in the lives of your family? The greatest blessing
we have to day is the fact that He has let us live one more day, to worship and serve Him one more day. So, why not give Him thanks now for the many blessings He has given you, and for all those blessings He will give you in the future.
| Heavenly Father, too many times we are to busy to stop and thank you for all the things you've done for us. Today, we want to give you praise and honor and glory, and thank you for the many blessings you've given
each of us. Sometimes we love the blessings, but forget to thank the Blesser. Forgive us, Lord, and help us remember that, without you, there would be no blessings. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. |
