Divine Appointment Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Blind Bartimaeus didn't pay attention to those around him. He chose to not let Jesus pass him by. He meant to get out there in front, to get a touch of the mercy of God. He wanted a touch of the healing power that he knew JESUS had!
Bartimeaus had been blind for years, and nobody had done anything for him. He knew his only chance was in reaching Jesus, the man he had heard could heal him. So he decided to risk his reputation with friends to reach Jesus. And, it paid off! He received his sight! It was more
important to Bartimeaus to get Jesus' attention, that it was to keep his reputation intact. He risked being called crazy to reach Jesus!!
The lady with the issue of blood chose to press forward, whether it was right or wrong. She was determined to touch the hem of his garment, whatever it took! Healing - a touch from the Master - meant more to her than social correctness!
When your friends tell you to quieten down, to 'keep your dignity', don't 'rock the boat', and you are trying to reach God, don't listen! You know what you need from Him, so press on, and He will answer!
