Everybody wants to be right, but few are completely right. We want perfection out of others, but fail to manage perfection for ourselves. I suppose it's our human nature to want to appear to be something we
aren't or have trouble obtaining. Not everybody can be right; stands to reason. But, there is not one perfect person on earth, regardless of how hard we try.
As we grow older, our views change. As a Christian matures, his or her views change. The Holy Spirit teaches you the Word as you read the Bible, and helps you grow more in the Spirit. You put your faith to work, and your trust builds in God.
Some will mature as a Christian sooner than others, simply because they are more diligent in staying in the Word.
The war is a perfect example of how people's views are different. Some, like my husband, have 'been there-done that', and understand what it is to need the support of the people back home. Yet, we have those here that do not support the war and
are daily protesting in the streets. This sends mixed messages to our troops. If you are against the war, how can you say you support the troops? That has been a struggle for me to understand.
We each are free to have our own views, but we should be prepared to be subject to those views. The troops in Iraq are there fighting for us, for our continued freedom. Life is tough, but you don't hear them complaining. Their view is, "I'm here doing my job, the one I trained for and knew I may
some day have to do, when I joined the service." They fight and die for those protestors to be able to protest and march against the war.
How far do we carry our 'point of view' before we realize we might be hurting another? What does it take to make us realize that perhaps we could be wrong? How long does it take for us to back up and take another look at things? When do we ask for forgiveness for the things that we deemed 'our views', and we were actually wrong, and
hurting others with our actions?
Each of those questions can be answered through the Word. We aren't to be a stumblingblock to anyone.
Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. | |
The war is going on; people are losing their lives every day, and the end isn't in sight. Our point of view should take a back seat to the concerns for our military men and women. Let us be more cautious when we speak our minds. It doesn't hurt us to 'count to ten', and, then say a prayer, when we want
to speak our mind. Life will go on without our view. It is always better to speak words of encouragement rather than words that do harm.
