Too Many Roads Leading Home? Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

A laugh a day keeps the doctor away, I've heard, or is it 'an apple a day'? Well, it doesn't really matter. I've had my share of laughter the past few days! For example:
- My sister in law and I were shopping on Friday. She had picked me up in a small town, where I left my car parked in a grocery store parking lot. I had intended on coming back that way and getting it. Well,
we got so involved in hunting this item, and got upset, since we couldn't find it. So, we decided to go another way home, stop at another furniture store to look at their books, adding Wal Mart to our last stop before going home. Well, we did that,
and she took me home. I had no sooner got in the house, when I discovered I couldn't go to the car to get something - we had forgotten to come by and get it.
- A friend of mine wrote this morning that I wasn't the first one to do something like that. When she was younger, she had driven into town to work and parked her car. But, when she got ready to leave that afternoon, she got on the bus and went home. Upon her arrival,
her Dad wanted to know where the car was. Needless to say, she had to be driven back to town to pick it up!
There seems to be too many roads leading home here! I can go and come and not come home the same way - that is, through the same towns. We can go
'through, around, behind, or in front' of certain towns - miss them altogether, if we like. We know all the 'pig trails' in the country. So, if we think we are lost, we just start driving, and soon find ourselves on a familiar road.
Spiritually, though, there is only one road that leads HOME. That is through JESUS CHRIST, our Lord. No amount of goodness done to your fellow man, sitting on church pews, or being good can put you on the right road. And, nobody else can travel the right road
for you. You must do the 'driving' yourself. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end - the door through which we must travel to make it into eternity with Him.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

If you've found yourself traveling on the wrong road lately, there's hope! Jesus is waiting for you to return to the familiar road. Look to Him, repent, draw near to Him, and let Him lead, guide and direct your paths from now on! His Road will become so
familiar that you will not want to travel another, OR travel alone!!

| Heavenly Father, we often get on the wrong road. Life is hard in the natural. The world surrounds us and is so tempting. But, help us to keep on the right road, to keep your commandments, and to ever trust in you to lead us until your return for your children! We give you praise. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. |
