Most of us look forward to our birthdays, not so much in that we enjoy getting older, but it's a usually a happy time. We get to go out on our special day to eat a special meal, usually with spouse or family. We might even get a gift or two, if we are lucky. A birthday is just a special time in our lives. I love to see mine come because I enjoy being alive!
December is a month of birthdays around our home and in our family. My Dad's birthday was in this month and also my parents anniversary, along with my younger brother's and his wife. I have a daughter whose birthday is after Christmas, and she has two children who have already had their birthdays this month. Mine happens to be on Sunday, and then, within a week, my sister-in-law has her birthday. We are really fixed with celebrations this month!
But, there is a birthday above all birthdays this month. The reason for the season is to celebrate this birthday. It is the birth of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. God sent his Son Jesus to earth over 2000 years ago. He was born to Virgin Mary and her husband Joseph. We celebrate Christmas to commemorate His birth. Even though it is a custom here to give gifts on birthdays and at Christmas, the most precious gift was given thousands of years ago, when God gave us His Son.
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
