Life is inescapable. Nothing we can do, as humans, can stop the progress of life. There are times, I am sure, that most of us would love to try. There may be sickness in our family that threatens the life of a loved one. Or, there might be an untimely death. Our children may go astray from their Christian upbringing. A host of other things may make us look toward ways of getting life to stop for awhile, so we can get it back in line. But, no matter how much we try, nothing will help, short of calling on God.
That's where life and death is interchangeable. When we become a child of the King, we exchange life for death - a life of sin exchanged for a life dead to the world. We leave all our worldly thoughts and ambitions behind to become the 'righteousness of God'. In our own way, we can never become righteous. It's not in us. But, when the Spirit of God is within us, we know no sin. Oh, the fleshly man may sin, but not the Spirit. The Spirit within us will arouse our conscience to that sin, and we have a chance to repent and get forgiveness. But, God expects us to not habitually sin.
If death - the end of our life as we now know it - comes upon us, as a Christian, we are then exchanging this worldly life for eternal life with the Savior. God has given us all the equal chance of life eternal with Him, or a life in Hell apart from Him. It's our choice. Some may say "I'll wait another day", but we aren't assured another breath. Be sure you have counted the cost, for nobody would want to choose the wrath of God, when they have the choice to make it right with Him for Eternal Life!
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
