'Stay ready to go, for today may be your last'. Those are words we don't like to hear, but they are true. None of us are guaranteed another day of life on this earth as we know it. It could be an accident that takes your life, or you may have a terminal disease, and the doctor tells you that you don't have long to live, or God may just call you home. Whatever it is that causes you to lose your life, it pays to stay ready to go. We will meet our maker in one form or another - either ready to live with Him eternally, or we'll be spending eternity in hell - bluntly said, but true.
Today, we said our last goodbye's to a cousin. He had been sick for several years. Yet, during all those years, and so many years before, he stayed ready. He kept the 'oil in his lamp' full. He was the most pleasant person you would ever want to meet, always a smile on his face, and a 'secret' in his hand. The little children loved to see him coming, for they knew he'd slip them a 'secret' into their hands (usually a one dollar bill) and tell them not to tell their brothers or sisters. And, then, he'd do the same to the brothers and sisters. He loved to help people; this was just his God-given nature. And, he lived it to the fullest.
Until the day he died, he prayed. In fact, just a little while before he died, he asked his wife to pray with him, to which he responded that he felt better. He was staying ready for his destiny with the Lord.
Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
