Moving The Stones
Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders

cross Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

Some homes are made of wood, others of brick, and then there are those built of hand-picked stones. Care has been taken to pick just the right ones to fit into special places - to round out the symmetry of the building. Broken stones, those of wrong colors, or anything that isn't presentable is not wanted in a house.

We should take such care when build our 'spiritual house'....the temple of God. We sometimes 'build' without thought to the bondage we are putting into our 'spiritual house' and what problems we will run into, not being a cautious builder.

As Christians, we should be showing the move of God within our lives. But, too many times, we become stagnated in our walk with God. We don't seem to be advancing in His will for our lives - we become sluggish and dull and do not progress.

When we become stagnated, we need to roll away the stones that block the work of God within our lives. These stones can be:

  • Doubt
  • Deception
  • Fear
  • Traditions

The Word says that if we have faith and 'doubt' not, then we are able to move mountains in His name. Doubt stops the flow of the Holy Spirit.

Some think a 'little sin' is okay, since we have an advocate with the Father, if we do sin. But this is deception, and very dangerous. We aren't perfect and won't be until we get our glorified bodies, but here on earth, we are to restrain from sinning and are to be as perfect as we can be, through the Holy Spirit. To me, that means we do not habitually sin. Sure, we say things or do something that isn't right, but immediately, if we are led by the Spirit, our Spirit is grieved within us, letting us know that we what we have done isn't pleasing to God, and we immediately WANT to repent.

Deception also comes in the form of believing things that 'seem' to be the truth, and aren't. That is why it is so important that we, as individuals, study the Word, get it deep within us, so that nothing can steer us away from the Truth. When we hear something that doesn't line up with the Word of God, then a red flag will immediately pop up and we will know that it is to be set aside as NOT the truth.

There is a healthy fear, which is to reverence God. But there is also unhealthy fear-the fear of what man will do, what man thinks. But, if you are a child of the King, then this fear shouldn't be there. For the Word says:

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Then we come to traditions, what many feel is bondage put upon us by man, in his interpretation of the scriptures. Let the WORD and the Holy Spirit be your guide in the things you do in your Christian life - HE will never lead you astray. If you feel that you are under bondage, speak to the Lord - let him bring you out of your 'Egypt'....

Galatians 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

Get rid of the "stones" in your life and build you life upon the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ. You need never fear what man can do to you, for you are in Him, where there is no fear - he will be your 'rock, fortress, and deliverer', when you put your full trust in Him.

Heavenly Father, I thank you that you have shown us the sure way to be out of bondage, to remove all the stones that man has placed before us. Thank you for your son, for the Holy Spirit which reigns within our hearts, to lead, guide, and direct our paths through life. Help us to listen intently to your Word and to the guiding of the Holy Spirit that we not stray and have stones to attach themselves to us, therefore stopping the flow of the work to be done by the Holy Spirit within our lives. We give you praise, glory, and honor due your precious name. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
