Where Is Our Faith? Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders
Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Where is our faith? In whom/in what do we place our faith? Oh, it's easy to say, "I have faith" .... but is it easy to say in what you have really placed your faith?
It might be shocking if we would re-evaluate our minds to see just where we have placed our faith. Many of us may be astonished to see that, although we profess to be
christians, that we aren't placing the faith that HE gave us where it should be placed - back in HIM!
I've heard people say, "I have faith, but why am I not healed?" Do you really have that kind of faith? Why aren't they seeing the results?
First, we have to have the WORD deep within us, to make it 'come alive'. Some of us 'read' the WORD, but never 'practice' the Word. In James 1:22, it says to "
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves".
You remember the story of Jesus being asleep on the boat with his disciples. The storm arose, and they came to Him, because they thought they were about to perish!
What did he do? He rebuked them with "Why are ye fearful, o ye of little faith?" He didn't do this for their health, but for their 'belief' ... they weren't practicing what he had taught them!
Too many times that's how we are. We think we 'know' the WORD, but never put it into practice when the time arises. Or, perhaps we read the WORD, but it's never gotten down into our Spirit, so that we
can practice it as the Lord meant for us to do.
We all have a measure of faith, that believe in Jesus. BUT do we put it to practice? He says that a faith as 'the grain of a mustard seed' is ALL we need to move a mountain - spiritually. WHY don't we
move more mountains?
The answer is this: we aren't into the Word deeply enough, we do not fully trust in the Lord and what his promises are to His people. We have let the adversary creep into our lives, through word from others, or disbelief, and he has sucked
what little faith we had right from us!! Oh, no, you say? THEN, what kind of life are you living? A prosperous life? A healthy life? A peaceful life? His WORD says we can have it all.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
If we examine ourselves, I believe we will find, IF we aren't gaining what the Bible says we can, that our soul is not prospering, because we are not into the Word as we should be, getting it engrafted in us,
and practicing what we learn through the Holy Spirit. HE will enlighten you to His Word, if you let him. But you have to be teachable, and thereafter, WALK in His Ways. It's so easy to say we have faith, yet never see the blessings that come
from having 'so great a faith' as the centurion did. He told Jesus he wasn't worthy for him to walk under his roof, BUT if he'd just 'speak a Word', then his servant would be healed!! NOW, that is faith!!
Also, the tempter has a way of placing us in 'doubt and unbelief', robbing us of our rightful blessings!! We give him foothold with our mouth; that's saying, at times, WE put our FOOT in our MOUTHS!
That's a very awkward situation! He knows where he can get you easily, so he uses that. And, he's very subtle! He knows just how to keep you from realizing he's in, until it's too late!! You need to guard your tongue in order to
not let it be the avenue in which the adversary gets that 'foothold'. When you say things such as "I know the Lord can heal, but I don't know if he'll heal me' ... then that is doubt and unbelief! The Bible plainly states that HE
died for you, He shed his blood for you, both bodily and spiritually!! HE is YOUR HEALER. Why wouldn't he want you healed? The adversary knows how to feed your mind to make you stay out from under the healing power of the Lord!!
AND you buy that!! MAN tells you one thing; the BIBLE tells you another. Who's report do YOU believe??
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight)
All through the OT, you find that 'by faith', things happened. They believed what GOD had said, put works behind it and it happened.
Now, we are under a new covenant, no longer under the law, but FAITH is still there - still works as it did in the OT - HIS WORD never changes!!
If it never happens, doesn't make God's Word not true. HE is the 'way, the truth, and the life" [ John 14:6 ].
Heavenly Father, today, help each of us realize that YOU are the way, the truth, and the life, that anything is possible with you. And anything is possible to we that believe! Your Word says it and I believe it! If man never
believes your Word, does not make it untrue - just that man has yet to obtain the true meaning of your Word. Holy Spirit, enlighten the sheep, that they may know what the Word says TO them, FOR them, that we can have what
the Word says. Teach us to place our trust and FAITH in you, Lord, that you can work in our lives to the fullest. We give you praise, honor and glory due your name. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
