Letting Go - Letting God
Weekly devotional by Barbara Sanders

Humans are strange - most want to 'hang on' to everything, their old clothes, old notes, old acquaintances that might not have associated with them in decades , and everything that might put a stress on their lives. They just don't recognize the need to 'let go' and 'let God' rule their lives.

I am one that believes in doing a job well done and doing that job until no longer needed. I was taught to FINISH what I started, and never be considered a quitter. But this week, something has happened that made me reconsider 'quitting', or 'letting go' and 'letting God' handle a particular situation. I quit what I thought was a permanent situation, one that I felt had been directly given me by God through another person. But I got this uneasiness when things began to crop up that I couldn't associate myself with, and felt a 'leading away', thinking GOD wanted something else in my life. But maybe he was teaching me to 'let go' and 'let God' handle the whole situation. I was having a time with this, because it's not easy to let go when you love something so much. But GOD knows!

Psalm 25:2 O my God , I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

Have you ever noticed God has a way of reaching his people, making them stand up and take notice? I just thought I was doing what was needed to be done, resigning my position. And then I began to get emails from concerned people associated with me, wanting me to reconsider and undo what I had done, but they thought they understood what I was doing it for, and so did I until I began to write this devotional. But little did I know that GOD was teaching me a valuable lesson of 'letting go' and 'letting God' rule in ALL parts of my life, even this thing called internet.

Psalm 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

Proverb 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We humans want to be "in control" of our lives - never let go of any aspect. I've been told by Christians that GOD gives us control of our lives. DOES HE? Look at the words below:

Psalm 23:23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD [is] my shepherd ; I shall not want.

Ezekiel 34:12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep [that are] scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd , and know my [sheep], and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

I believe that God gives us a control to a certain extent, that he provided us with GRACE through faith to accept salvation offered to us. Then, as Christians, he is our Shepherd and leads us through paths of righteousness, through the thick and thin, where, if we put our full trust in him, we are never hurt or burned. Just like God used an earthquake to loosen the prison doors for Paul and Silas, he will do it for you. And just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were delivered from the fiery furnace, with protection from the Son of God in the fire, he will deliver you from the same kind of hurt. We only have to trust him completely.

Psalm 18:30 [As for] God , his way [is] perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he [is] a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; [ye] people, pour out your heart before him: God [is] a refuge for us. Selah.

Proverb 30:5 Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

I Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God , who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Let us remember that God is the Alpha and Omega, the Author and the Finisher of our faith. We need to rely upon him for our every day spiritual walk as well as our earthly walk among men and unbelievers. When we show forth a Godly way of living, then we will be rewarded by God. He is a keeper of his blessed promises.

II Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Heavenly Father, help us to rely upon you for all our needs, whatever they may be. Help us to let you guide our paths so we might not stray, to hear you voice when you are gently leading us out of a problem area we've gotten ourselves into, being the humans that we are. May we ever listen to the unction of your Spirit and be delivered from unneeded stress in our lives. We will ever give you the praise, honor, and glory due your precious name. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
