Has Responsibility Gone 'Out The Window'? August 4,
2000 Our Thoughts:
I thought I had heard it all until today! Never under estimate the public! There is always a new topic
coming up in the 'sue them now' column, believe me. The email I got today, with the newest topic, almost floored me, along with my friends.
For someone who has never smoked, I've always thought it was ludicrous for smokers or family of smokers to sue the tobacco companies because of diseased lungs or
deaths due to cigarettes. After all, we are supposed to be responsible people, and read labels - the cigarette pack carries a warning label, as does thousands of other products.
Yet, the tobacco companies have been sued successfully, getting money for their patrons. Another crazy, but money making case for one woman, was the case with a fast food restaurant, where a
woman CHOSE to get hot coffee at the driveup window, placing it in her seat, and subsequently got burned. But, the judge found it to be negligence on the part of the restaurant.
When are we, as a human race, going to wise up? When are we going to learn there ARE consequences to the choices we make?
Today, I got an email, declaring that a very popular chocolate company was responsible for obesity in people who ate chocolate! How many people have had to have their hands
held in order to eat a candy bar? How many of us have been forced to buy one? Do we, as people, not have a responsibility to our own bodies, to eat sensibly, and not to put things in our mouths that will be
harmful to our health? Are we not responsible for our OWN actions anymore?
Hershey's Ordered to Pay Obese Americans $135 million I do realize this article isn't true.
God's Thoughts:
Matthew 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
1 Corinthians 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help us to take responsibility for our own actions. Guide us into the correct actions, if we have a problem with another. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
