SEEK GOD FIRST!
October 26, 2000

dotOur Thoughts:

Too often, we get caught up in doing our own thing and forgetting God is waiting patiently for us to remember He is there. Not until we get in big trouble, or decide we can't go it alone, will we stop and ask God for help or guidance.

King Asa relied on the Lord and God had carried him through. But, he perhaps got 'full of himself', and thought he could carry on in life by himself. He made a league with the King of Syria, a fleshly man, instead of depending on God, as he had done before. So, he was given a reproof by a prophet of God for distrusting God and not relying on his goodness and power. He was left to himself to do whatever he wanted, to abuse whatever power He had, sort of like God got tired of being abused, used, and let him 'rot' in his own deceitfulness.

How many times have we, as Christians, thought we could go it alone, and during our misgivings, came across things that really brought us down. It made us realize that, without God,there is nothing. He has the power to deliver, and to keep us from our troubles. But, if we blatantly refuse to listen to Him, then he will let us go our merry way, and reap whatever we've sown.

King Asa went his merry way, and a few years later, was diseased in his feet for persecuting the prophet of God, who was only delivering a message to which he should have listened. He paid with his body for not relying on God for what only He can give. We need to watch closely and be careful to be faithful to God in our faith, patience and obedience.

dotGod's Thoughts:

2 Chronicles 16:8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

dotOur Cup:

Heavenly Father, put a desire in our hearts to seek after you first. You alone are our deliverer and troubles come when we don't put our trust in you. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
