Trust Not In Riches Our Thoughts:
I know you've heard people say, "If only I could win the lottery, my worries would be over." Maybe,
but perhaps their troubles would just begin. Too often, when we reach the 'worldly plateau' of 'enough', then, we quickly forget just how we got there. We forget to give
credit to the Almighty, who kept us healthy, in order to work. He gives us all knowledge, even though we might think we do it all on our own.
There is nothing wrong with having plenty, so don't get me wrong. I believe God gave us the ability to live a very comfortable life, but, He also expects us
to give back to Him his portion, through tithes, giving to the poor, or helping others in need. Too many times, people come 'into money', and they are extravagant in their buying.
They never thank the Lord for giving them wealth. Some are so protective of what they have, they become misers. I once heard about this 'poor man' dying, and then it was discovered
that he was one of the wealthiest men around. But, he hid it, and lived like a hermit. The money did nothing for him or others for which he might could have made life easier.
Riches won't get us to heaven, but they could keep us from going there. If we place our trust in our riches, and not in God, then we are doomed. It's not impossible for
someone rich to become saved, but they must place their trust in the saving POWER of GOD, not their riches. We should not expect our happiness to come from what we have obtained, but
through Jesus Christ. Worldy happiness is but for a time; the happiness and joy obtained through serving Christ is for eternity.
God's Thoughts:
Proverbs 11:4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Matthew 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help us realize we are in need of your Word daily. Without the Word to guide us, we are but mere men, struggling to get by in a dark world. Thank you for giving us the Word for guidance. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
