Caught Up In Discouragement?
Our Thoughts:
It's does not take much for most people to become discouraged. You wake up, the water is off, so the bath is off for the morning. The cable or satellite goes out right in
the middle of a program you always watch. You dropped catsup on your best dress or shirt, when you were on your lunch break. The car wouldn't start, so you were late for work. You stumped your toe on the chair, when you walked through the room
in the dark. Life holds it's disappointments for all of us, at any given time. But, we should learn from our discouragements, rather than going into a state of fear of depression.
After yesterday's grilling and the thought of a second day, most people would become very discouraged. But, I watched Senator Ashcroft very closely, seeing his facial expressions and body movements, as well as listening to his voice.
He never seemed to get frustrated. He might have got a little side tracked, when he kept getting interrupted, during his long answers. I would have gotten so frustrated, I'd have forgotten just where I was in the topic of conversation! But, not Senator
Ashcroft. He just thanked them, or apologized, and looked down, and resumed his place! Some reporters are now saying this was all written 'for' him. But, I don't see it that way. It would be hard for anyone to give such a speech, if they didn't know what
they were talking about. It takes much preparation in order to come across as knowledgeable as he did yesterday.
I believe what held Senator Ashcroft together yesterday was his faith in God. He knew he had someone behind him that would never leave him. He knew the Lord would be there to help him in time of trouble. I am sure he spent some time in
prayer, before coming to that committee meeting yesterday. And, I am sure the family will pray, before attending the meeting today.
The same God that helps Senator Ashcroft meet the day with the encouragement that he needs can help you do the same. He says he will strengthen us and uphold us with his right hand of righteousness. He will keep you from falling when you
are on the brink. He will never leave nor forsake you. So, tune into God today; be encouraged to carry on, although the going seems very bleak!
God's Thoughts:
Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, you make the difference in our lives. When we are down and out, you pick us up, help us become encouraged and worthy of love. We thank you for the love you give us moment by moment. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
