Only Through Mercy And Grace

Our Thoughts:

We heard the president pardon many people before leaving office this past Saturday. This pardon wipes away anything they may have done wrong, in the eyes of the government, restoring their rights as citizens. Many of the more unfortunate people will still serve time for some of the same things for which these people have gotten a presidential reprieve.

Pardons free a person from the crimes committed in this world, but not in the world to come. Only God can pardon us through our repentance, by His grace and mercy. Sometimes man forgets, in his dealings with other men, that, only through God, can we get complete forgiveness. In the eyes of the law, perhaps some things are forgiven and forgotten. But, God holds each of us accountable for things we do, and unless we ask forgivess through Him, then we are treading on dangerous territory. A pardon sounds good to the ear, perhaps, when you are the one getting the reprieve. But, a pardon does nothing to heal the problems caused through the misdeeds done. One must go before God in a state of true repentance, and ask His forgiveness. Only then will a heavenly _pardon_ be given. We need to put our trust in God, not man.
