The Good Samaritan - Part II
Our Thoughts:
A good samaritan, by the dictionary terms, is a compassionate person who unselfishly helps others. Throughout history, there have been many great
good samaritans - Mother Theresa the one outstanding person that quickly comes to mind. Then, there was Princess Diana, from England. But, I am sure there are many less well-known good samaritans lurking
in our neighborhoods. These are people that quietly help others, without ever letting anyone know. They do little deeds for others, without praise. And, it's these little deeds done unselfishly that makes
them great in the eyes of the ones they've helped.
Today, there is a 'good samaritan' in the government. The Bible says for us to 'study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed'. And, John Ashcroft, our new Attorney General,
does just that. Each morning, he holds a Bible study before work, and it's open for anyone who wants to attend, although it's not mandatory for anyone. But, in doing this, he is getting lots of flack from those that want separation of state and church.
The Washington Post ran a front page story, saying these sessions offended some. Even a lawyer, who 'would not' be identified, says it alienating, although this particular person hasn't EVER attended the meetings. So, how could he know it was alienating, until he
had attended? And, please tell me why this lawyer didn't want to be identified? Is he ashamed to stand up to 'his convictions', and let others know what he thinks about Attorney General Ashcroft and his meetings?
I applaud the Attorney General for standing up for his rights - although, I am sure, with this having always been in his morning plans, that he's only doing that which seems right and normal to him. He is a dedicated Christian, and I am sure that
he had rather take ridicule from some, in order to serve His God. The Consititution gives him the right to have those meetings on his own time, which he's doing, so there's nothing wrong with them. But, to listen to those not in favor, you'd think he was stealing from
the government! Actually, he's giving to others those things that God has placed in his heart, through many years of study and acknowledging God as Lord and Savior. I thank God that we have a 'good samaritan' in this high office, that will stand up and be counted among those that
will uphold the Word, regardless of what the society slings at him! John Ashcroft is a very humble man, and God will exalt him in due time!
God's Thoughts:
Exodus 18:20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, this country needs the man that has been placed in the Attorney General seat. We thank you that he is able to continue to serve you, and still be a great Attorney General. He is not ashamed to let the world know that serving you is his number one priority, for he places you first each day. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
