Are You Short-Changing God?

Our Thoughts:

Do you ever make promises to God and then don't keep them? How many times have you asked God to 'use me', and, then, when He gives you something to do, you decide you 'don't have time', 'it's not your thing', or you are just 'too tired' to do the project? Do you ask Him to WAIT until you have a free day, or when you aren't so busy with 'other things'? Are you always putting God on the back burner of your calendar?

Several years ago a mother gave her son 2 quarters. One was for his Sunday School offering. The other was for an ice cream cone on the way home from S.S.

Well, Billy was flipping one quarter in the air and catching it on the way down. This happened 8 times or so when all of a sudden the quarter was flipped into the air, but Billy missed catching it. It rolled down the storm sewer and was gone.

Billy looked skyward and prayed, "Sorry, God, that was your quarter."

Sometimes we are like the little boy in the illustration. We give God the 'leftovers' or nothing at all. We think God won't mind; after all, 'He understands' that we are human, and sure, humans make mistakes! Well, what would you think if someone was constantly leaving you out of their plans, especially, if they were relatives or close friends? What if you never got invited to anything, or never got a present at Christmas? What would you think? Sure, you'd think someone didn't feel you were very important anymore. I suppose GOD feels, at times, that we think He isn't important, in light of the way we take advantage of His relationship with us. We just forget He has a heart, thinking He will continue to love us, regardless of how we act towards Him. Sure, He will love us, but will He like us? He will love us, because He wants us to stay in the fold. But, when we aren't responsible Christians, it sometimes makes me wonder if God really likes us anymore. Are we really worthy of Him liking us?

I love some people, but do not like the way they act. I want to change them, but can't, because they are the ones in control. It's the same with us. God loves us, but may not like the way we act towards Him, but He has given us free rein to act the way we want. We make the choice to give to God our best or our worse, or not at all.

Psalms 44:21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Jeremiah 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Our Cup:

Heavenly Father, search our hearts, and show us where we are wrong. Help us to mend our ways, and get back on the right track with you. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
