It Shall Flow Like A River
May 28, 2001 Our Thoughts:
This morning, as I drove to church, I drove across the neighboring river bridge. As I looked down at the water in the riverbed, a thought came to me as to
how our spiritual life is like a river. The water was low, and the ragged edges of the banks were showing much more than they normally do. I am sure the fish have to fight to survive in such low waters. And
the debris usually takes over, when there hasn't been enough rain to raise the water level and wash the mess away.
The rivers rely on the creeks and branches to supply them with water. But, if it doesn't rain, then the branches and creeks dry up, and there is no reservoir of water from which the river can draw.
It soon gets way below normal, making life miserable for the water creatures, and the banks take on a different look. The water within the river sometimes becomese stagnant and makes survival very hard. So, the rivers become
very polluted.
It is the same as this with our spiritual lives. If we don't have the living WORD coming in, and aren't ever subjected to sound gospel teaching, our minds become polluted with the debris we get daily, through television, media on the radio, the internet, or people withwhom we come
in contact that aren't on solid, spiritual ground.
If we will open our hearts and minds, God will fill us with His living water. It will flow through us and we will not become stagnant. He will keep us clean through His power and Spirit. This is His offering of the water of eternal life.
God's Thoughts:
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Proverbs 18:4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, teach us to study the Word, and enlighten us, through the Holy Spirit, as how to apply the Word to our daily lives. We are like the river, and if we run dry, then we become stagnated and unfit for your use. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
All Scriptures are taken from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.
