Training A Child
June 4, 2001 Our Thoughts:
When we were little, we might not always agree with what our parents said, but we trusted them, nevertheless. We knew Mom and Dad were there to help us
through anything. We felt they could get us out of any little scrapes, and they'd take up for us, during any fusses. I can hear my grandchildren now! Each one of them thinks he is right; Mom knows he can't be wrong,
and the other child is the culprit. Well, isn't that always the thinking of a little child? Even if they understand they did something, they usually try to place the blame on the other one. One of my grandsons gets
so upset if we question him about something that we know he's done. He tells us we say this because we don't love him. And, actually, the opposite is true. We try to instill honesty into the grandchildren, so they will grow
up with good values.
When you teach a little child good values values, then he/she will grow up with good values. That's not to say that one will not stray, but they know how they should conduct themselves in life, and will come back.
We always taught our children to be honest, never to lie. Lying will get you in trouble and will always catch up with you. Scripture says to train up a child in the way they should go, and they will not depart from it.
God's Thoughts:
Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help each of us to train our children in your ways. Help us to live the in front of our children, that they will see you in us and want to follow in our foot steps. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
