Cares of This World

Our Thoughts:

Let's be truthful. We hear the Word, when it's preached. We say we read the Word, and we study the Word, but do we 'practice' the Word? The cares of this world creep before us, whether it be a new car (hey, the neighbor just bought a new car and I sure wish I had one like it!), and whether you can afford it or not, you go right out and try to out do the Jones'es.

Are we careless hearers? Does it go in one ear and out the other? Do we realize that, without the Word, we are unarmed, and will be unable to defend ourselves against the enemy, when he comes - AND, he will come! The enemy is like the birds. They go around, hunting seed that has fallen from the feeders on to the ground. In that same respect, satan goes around, waiting to see who are careless hearers, who just let the Word go in, but never do a thing with it. They 'hear' it on Sunday morning, but go about their merry way, Monday through Saturday. And, he's watching, waiting to single you out and take over your mind.

Let's be more careful to stay in God's Word, to follow after His precepts, to attend to His commandments, and heed His warnings. Let's not attend to the worldly affairs and forget that He wants us attending to our souls. We should watch for the Lord's return, pray continually, and worship Him in spirit and in truth. Don't let the worldly things hinder your attending to your soul's needs!

God's Thoughts:

Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Our Cup:

Heavenly Father, the cares of this world often bog us down, and we are depressed, knowing that others seem to prosper more than we do. But, help us realize that it's not the riches that make us who we are, but the way we conduct our lives in the Spiritual. Only through you, can we make it into the promised land! Worldy things will get us nothing. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
