Different Lives-Different Objectives
June 12, 2001 Our Thoughts:
On Monday morning, Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma bomber, was put to death by lethal injection. He left this earth at the age of thirty-three, unrepentant, or showing any remorse for his crimes. He didn't believe in God
and thought death was the 'end' of life for him.
From all reports, Timothy was a bright boy, normal as other children in the neighborhood. He grew up and went off to the army, where his commanders wished they had more McVeighs. But, this was before the hatred filled
his heart and life, that caused him to take action on what he thought was wrongs to the public by our government. He never stopped to think of the punishment he would face. Perhaps he may have been willing to face the punishment, in order
to get his point across - and through the media, he got his way. His face was plastered all over the television, each time his name was mentioned. To me, he got way more exposure than he should have. The victims seemed to have been pushed in
the background and half forgotten.
There was another man who lived on earth for thirty three years. He came not to punish, but to save lives. He went about doing good, healing the sick, and spreading the Word that God had given Him. Then, during his last days,
to fulfill prophecy, he was found 'guilty' and sentenced to die on the cross. He didn't have the luxury of a 'lethal injection', but hung on that cross and suffered, as he was nailed there. He wasn't given a 'last meal' to enjoy; vinegar was put to
his mouth. He wasn't given a platform on which to try and prove his innocence. There was no news media to give him publicity. Instead, he was taken from the cross and laid in a borrowed tomb. No coroner came to take him to the funeral home and make
his body ready for a proper burial.
Although these two men lived a short life of thirty three years each, they were as far apart as east is from the west. The only way their lives touched was the fact that Jesus died on that cross for people like Timothy McVeigh. Yet,
Timothy lived to the last moment of life, unrepentant, and unwilling to submit to God as his Savior. He felt life was over at the point of death. A last minute repentant spirit, asking God for forgiveness, would have saved him from his life of torment.
But, like others, he was unwilling to give God 'a chance' - he 'knew' there was no hereafter, so he stuck to
that self-righteous spirit that the enemey had provided, and went to his death, thinking there was no God. God would have given him a 'reprieve' - a 'stay of execution' - although he would probably have been put to death anyway. But, death on this earth
is unlike the spiritual death he has faced, when he chose to disclaim God and His power. Timothy will, one day, come face to face with reality. He will face GOD at judgement day, for scripture says that 'every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.' [ Romans 14:11 ]
God's Thoughts:
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, let those in unbelief realize that you are the one that holds the future in your hands. Through you, we can obtain life eternal. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
