Just What Are You Asking?

dotOur Thoughts:

I know many of you have heard of Bruce Wilkinson's book, The Prayer of Jabez. Below is the prayer from scripture:

1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.KJV

Many times we pray for things and don't realize what we are asking, or how much the answer entails. We forget to 'count the cost', to see if we are up to that which we are asking God. Too many times we ask in haste, only to find it's more than that which we were 'bargaining', and we waste our talents. We forget that, if God sees fit to give us 'the desires of our heart', that He will supply the will power, the time, and energy, to get it done. But, we have to rely on Him, and not go out on a tangent of our own making.

When we ask God to 'enlarge our territory', we need to realize He's going to make a way for us, as an individual, to be able to present His gospel to more than we have ever imagined. We need to be prepared to share the Word effectively. We also need to be ready to change in any direction, if God warrants it. We want to be fully under His direction, listening to His voice completely.

Something else to keep in mind is God's blessings for your life. He wants to bless us, but often times, we turn them down, without realizing it. We don't ask for His blessings, so they never come. His Word tells us to 'ask and ye shall receive'. James 4:3 says it best: 'ye have not because ye ask not'. We need to learn that we are free to ask God for His blessings for our lives. Then, when those blessings begin to flow into our lives, we need to be good stewards, and pass those blessings on to others. He doesn't give for us to keep it hidden or tucked away in our little nest, but to help others that are in need, or less fortunate than we are.

dotGod's Thoughts:

John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

dotOur Cup:

Heavenly Father, teach us to be led by the Spirit in all things. Help us to stay in your will for our lives. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
