Daily Dose of God's Word At
Barbara's EntourageFamine in the Land
Our Thoughts:
When we think of a famine, we think about not enough food to eat, or food supplies cut off. Famines have been present throughout our
history. People have literally starved to death!
You remember the story of the famine in Canaan. Abraham, the faithful, escaped to Egypt. He lost his faith in the Almighty, and encouraged Sari to pose as his sister, instead of his wife.
He gave her to Pharoah so that his life would be saved - forget God -forget the ONE that had made him a 'father of many nations', affording him many blessings, materially and spiritually. If God's chosen
servant can lose his faith, how much easier is it for someone with little faith to be overcome?
There is a 'famine of the WORD' in our land. Most people probably have one or more Bibles in their houses. Some are displayed; some are not. But, how many of those Bibles have the tell-tale marks of
being used? How many have pages that are torn and marked up, from a long use? How many have backs coming off, because they have been subjected to hands that will flip those pages, eyes that will read, and minds that
will ask God to enlighten them to their meanings? Many people never open the Bible - they have it for show. Many 'believe' in the Bible, yet, they never open it to find out what it has in their that 'they believe'.
Many never take their Bibles to church to check out what the preacher is saying for themselves. They never study the message beyond that Sunday morning to make sure what he is teaching is indeed true.
Today, more than any other, we need to get out those Bibles and put them to use. We need to study the Word, to find out what God is saying to us today. What does He have for you, as an individual, that
you yet have to discover? In times of trials, He has the answers. In times of tragedy, His Word has healing. His WORD should be our guide for each facet of life, be it personal, professional, or spiritual.
God's Thoughts:
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, we have strayed from you at times. In our nation, we have suffered devastation and destruction, but we know that faith in you will
get us through. Help us to read, study, and obey your Holy Word. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
