Our Thoughts:
All of us have run across people that seem to think they are above anything you can say or do. As the statement goes,
they are of the mentality "Anything you can do, I can do better". Perhaps they can, but, in my opinion, this puts a bad light on that person. I believe in letting your talents
be known, but not at the expense of your character. It harms a person to become known as a person who is 'better' than anyone. Those people wonder why nobody wants to be around them,
or why they don't have friends for very long.
I know this person who loves to tell you how much she paid for her dress, as if anyone cares. When I admire something someone is wearing, I haven't asked for the history of
that item - just noted that it's nice looking or looks good on the person. If I want to know where it was bought, or how much it costs, I'll ask. And, there are those that want to tell you
all about their 'wealth', but if you mention getting something new, they brush you off like you didn't exist, and keep on talking. Those people soon lose my interest, and I try never to bring
up that topic again in their presence. When one exalts oneself with every breath, it turns off the average person.
The Bible teaches us to be humble and let others do the exalting. I, myself, have even found it hard to accept praise. Don't know if that goes with my upbringing or not, but, it's
only in the past few years,I've learned just to say 'thank you'. I've always groped for the right words to say.
God's Thoughts:
Matthew 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help us keep ourselves humble. Teach us your ways and your precepts so that our daily lives will always uphold your name. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
