Daily Dose of God's Word At
Barbara's EntourageThe First Day of The Rest of Your Life
January 1, 2002
Our Thoughts:
Today is New Years Day, January 1, 2002. Everyone always gets excited, looking forward to a new year, and a day off from work. There is usually
a menu that everyone likes to cook for the family for New Years. In our family, we don't have a menu, because we've always just cooked whatever we want to eat. I don't hold to the notion that
whatever I do, I'll be doing for the rest of the year. I don't believe prosperity or my life will be affected by what I eat today, either. I call those 'old wives' tales'.
Today is the beginning of a new year in the Lord. If we have a new resolution, it should be to get closer to the Lord. Choices we make today could affect our spiritual life. Most people
make such resolutions as losing weight, quit smoking, getting a new job, but those resolutions are usually resolutions that we won't keep for long. Losing weight and stopping smoking takes lots of willpower,
rather than making a resolution. You have to really WANT to do those things, not simply make a resolution on New Years. You mind had to be SET in the right attitude. That's the way with serving the Lord -
your attitude has to be right. I remember one preacher saying someone needed 'a checkup from the neck up, to change his attitude'. And, that is correct with lots of people. They say they are a Christian,
but never show in their character that they are actually following God - keeping His commandments. They 'sound good', but they never produce the fruits of a Christian.
Today, let us check our attitude. Are we serving God with the right attitude? Are we following after His precepts? If we find a flaw in our attitude, today would be a great day to make
a change for the better.
God's Thoughts:
Psalms 140:4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
Psalms 141:9 Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help me adjust my attitude. Make me a vessel unto honor in Your sight. We give you praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
