Daily Dose of God's Word At
Barbara's EntourageProcrastinating?
Our Thoughts:
Do you find it easy to put off things that need to be done? Are you constantly passing up tasks that seem hard for
those that are easily finished? That's called procrastination. And, no doubt, all of us have, at some time or another, procrastinated in our lives.
I know I'm guilty! I hate housework, and put it off as long as I can. I used to get right out of bed and make it up; seemed to be the correct thing to do - but for whom?
I've heard some say, 'well, I'm going to get right back in it tonight. Why make it up?' Well, that's not really my theory, but I've just become lax on those things that aren't
really all that important to me. I have the saying, 'if you don't like it, fix it'. Well, I haven't gotten anyone to take up that notion yet and clean my house! And, they probably never will.
Leaving your housework undone until you feel that you want to do it will not get you in trouble - maybe a little embarrassed when an unexpected guest comes, but not in trouble.
But, procrastinating against paying bills could land you in a heap of trouble. There is one other area in which procrastination could get you in trouble. That's your spiritual life!
When we procrastinate against reading the Word, our Spirit can 'go limp'. I like the way Joyce Meyer illustrated it with a plant. She said she purchased a plant, and each day of
a particular conference, she would remove one of the leaves. At the end of the three day conference, and three leaves had been removed, they were limp. The oldest one was in worse shape than the
second and third one. But, on examining the leaves left on the plant, they were 'alive'. In other words, those of us who daily read the Bible, keep abreast on what the Lord wants to say to us through
the Word. He is able to enlighten our minds and keep our armor working against the enemy. But, each day that we are lax on reading and putting to use His Word, our Spirit becomes less and less effective
in warding off the enemy. And, one day, we find ourselves in his clutches, simply because we've failed to get the Word deep within our spirit for use in time of need.
God's Thoughts:
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, we humans think we know what is best for us. Help us to realize that You are our help in time of need and we get this help through the Word and prayer. Enlighten us through Your Word, as we read daily. We give you praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
