Take Me At My Word?

dotOur Thoughts:

Words mean something. We should never speak without thinking first. Words hurt, and when we speak loosely, people get offended, or upset that we could speak to them in a certain tone. Sometimes, it upsets them to an extent, you lose a friend. Words should always edify rather than tear down.

We have a small grandson that listens intently to every word you say! When you say something to him, he expects you to do what you say. And, when something arises to stop you from performing your promise, he doesn't understand. Instead, the first words out of his mouth are, "You lied to me". This child has learned, at an early age, that people don't always perform as they say, or always mean what they say. Perhaps we do mean to do what we've told him, but, perhaps we can't do it at the moment. The one thing Papa always tells him is that he will ride him on the blue tractor. Well, it's not always convenient to do so the moment he wants to take Papa upon the promise. He doesn't understand 'wait', but thinks you've lied.

When we speak to others, we need to measure our words. Never intentionally lie to someone. You will be found out. And, when you are, it will be held against you. Christians are seen in the light in which they live and speak. We should try to live up to the Word that should be within us - never lie to cover up something, never lie to make things look good for you; in other words, never lie. Even if the person to whom you are speaking doesn't realize you are lying, God knows.

Can people take you at your word? Can they place their trust in you? If you can't answer yes to those questions, perhaps you need to go back to the 'drawing board' - seek God on how to change.

dotOur Cup:

Heavenly Father, words do hurt. Help me to be careful of the words that come from my mouth, that they edify instead of tear down another person. I give you praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
