The Thief II

Our Thoughts:

For the past two and a half weeks, the nation's capitol and surrounding areas have been plagued with what they are calling sniper killings. Just this morning, another killing happened in the area where six of the other victims were shot. This sniper knows the area and feels secure. He thinks that he's safe and cannot be stopped by the police. He has chosen ways he feels they won't be able to identify him - coming from out of no where with a shot from a gun - hidden in trees, in a truck, and in the dark.

The enemy is sneaky! He uses ways and means that an honest person would never use to get over a point. Doesn't matter who he hurts - he's going to get his job done! Scripture says that 'the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy'. [ John 10:10 ] And, this sniper is true to that word. Nothing seems to deter him - not even a dialogue with police. He avoids the police barriers put up immediately after a shooting. So far, he has escaped detection by anyone, and has made it clear he will shoot until he wants to stop.

Had the victims known, in advance, that the sniper was in the area, I am almost positive they would have chosen to avoid the area where the accident was going to happen. But, they weren't forewarned of the upcoming tragedy that was going to happen. They had no time to prepare themselves or their families for what was to happen shortly. That's the way the enemy is - attack without warning, with any means. It doesn't bother him to attack those that are down and out, the young, the old, the poor, the sick, female or male - he makes no exceptions when he is after something. This sniper seems to voice this in all of his shootings - having shot 13 times, one child - many adults - women and men - different areas, but same scenarios - except for time. He is brazen in his actions, as though he's made of brass. The Word says that if we have not love (charity), we have become as brass, or a tinkling symbol. [ I Corinthians 13:1 ] This enemy is truly not after a cheering section for his actions - he shows no love for anyone.

His Thoughts

Luke 12:39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

Our Cup:

Heavenly Father, the enemy is truly at work, after all the people. He is brazen in his actions, and nothing seems to deter him. But, we know that your Word says that what we sow we will reap. Reach out and touch all the victims of the sniper's outrages - give them peace that only you can give. Comfort the hearts of those that have lost loved ones. Only you can reach the sniper and cause him to give himself up. For this, we give you thanks and praise! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
