Daily Dose of God's Word At
Barbara's EntourageWe Have Power!
Our Thoughts:
I don't know if I could have made it during the times without power. I remember the times when there wasn't much more than
a light connected to the power supply in our home. But, at least, we had light! Often times, our power would go out when I was a child. We would sit before the fire place in the
living room, and read or play. Didn't seem to bother us then. But, this is now, with all the great things that power helps us have - electric ranges, electric heat, electricity for washing, ironing,
running machinery, etc. And, then - the power goes out!
We got a card in the mail last week that stated we would be without power on November 5th, election day, between the hours of 8 and 2. I told my husband, "I'm praying it rains tomorrow", which is did, and heavy! So
our outage was put off another day. We got up this morning to a phone call from his sister who reminded us to get the coffee pot on, because they would surely cut off our power. Well, 8AM came and the power didn't
cut off. I was just getting into my computer duties, when, just like a flash - the computer screen went blank - the power was, indeed, out! And, it stayed off until almost 2PM.
Have you had to set around with nothing much to do - or perhaps you didn't want to do anything - and no power to do the things you really wanted to do? It was sort of a dark, dreary morning - no sunshine, and here
we were, in our home, forced to do the unthinkable - do without power - and figure out what we could do without it. Of course, my husband, being who he is - a workacholic, can always find things to do, and make me feel bad. I chose not to feel bad, but
to get a little battery-operated radio of my grandson's and listen to yesterday's election talk. Then, I did get up and clean a bathroom, just to redeem myself. :)
In our spiritual lives, we sometimes feel the 'power is off' - we have no control over anything. We get oppressed, depressed, and often stray from God, because the power isn't working in our lives. We spend our lives focusing on the power supply
from the world, but seldom realize that GOD is the ultimate source for the greatest POWER supply. Unlike the power company in our states, He said he would 'never forsake us'. [Heb 13:5] When the power in the desk lamp goes out, His LIGHT is still shining. When
you feel your power is becoming low, rekindle the fire - study the Word, meditate on it daily. Get it deep within your spirit, so that you can draw on that great power supply when it's needed. Like the 5 virgins that didn't keep their lamps trimmed, if you haven't
filled up on the power of the Word, then you will be standing outside, looking in.
His Thoughts
Psalms 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, we know that you have the ultimate power supply! It never runs dry, never gets low, but we have to tap into it, in order for it to work in our lives. Help us learn to do this daily. We give you praise! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
