Daily Dose of God's Word At
Barbara's EntourageBe Thankful!
Our Thoughts:
Rambling around the mall during the Christmas season, you find many things for which to be thankful. I spent the day walking back and forth in the local mall,
searching for the perfect gift for my granddaughter. I did more shopping, but hers was the only one that gave me problems. I could have gotten very upset. Oh, I got tired of walking, tired of finding one piece of
an outfit in one color and the other part in another - in her size, but none with both parts. It was hard to make up my mind, when I really had it set on a specific thing.
During this process of searching, I talked to a lot of people. One lady was 'talking to herself' in one store, and cautioned me not to get alarmed when she did. I just told her not to worry - I was just as guilty. And, sure, during the day,
I found myself talking to myself just as she was! I thanked God that I didn't start to answer myself!
I saw those that weren't as fortunate as I was - people in wheelchairs, others with canes to help them walk, and one with a leg prosthesis. I was thankful that I had two good legs to take me through that mall, that my health was such that I was
able to walk with no problems. So many are unable to do the amount of shopping that I did in one day.
Seeing the problems that people had with cashiers, I was thankful that I didn't have their job. One lady left the line ahead of me with the comment, 'she needs an attitude adjustment'. I've heard that before, but I thought it was uncalled for, in that the
problem was the lady making the purchase. She didn't make herself clear before purchasing. She wanted the gift receipts so the purchases could be returned by the receivers, but only asked for them AFTER the fact. Makes it hard for the cashiers.
But, I suppose the thing for which I was most thankful was my ability to stay calm. I did get a little upset when I was unable to find a saleslady in a lingerie department to help. I was told I'd need to go find a cashier in another department. But, I needed help
in that department, not just a cashier. I just walked out, sort of disgusted with the store. I found also found myself talking to people about Christmas, or just passing the time of day with others. It was though my aches and pains helped me see others as I hadn't seen them before.
The mall was hot, and that was another conversation starter. But, thank the Lord, I got through the day, and got my shopping done. I had a conversation with an elderly woman, in which she agreed with my thoughts - "I wish Christmas would just pass on by - have church and forget the rest." But, I
now realize if there wasn't a Christmas, there would be no Jesus. And, if God hadn't sent His Son, then there would be no redemption for our souls. So, I am thankful that it was in God's plan to send His Son and we have this Christmas on which to reflect!
His Thoughts
Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, this is the season in which people usually lose their cool, when met with problems shopping. Let us see others as you see them, and help us to refuse to get angry, but show the love of God to all of those around us. We give you praise! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
