How many of us have been caught unprepared for something almost at the moment of the holiday? At Christmas, you rush to buy your gifts, if you are like me. I never fail to have to go
shopping at the last moment for another gift I want to add to someone's package. I've been known to shop until the stores close on Christmas Eve.
Then, there is the preparation for the Christmas meal, whether it is lunch or dinner. Some people start their cooking weeks in advance, putting dressing and cakes in the freezer. I prefer to cook at the last moment, honestly!
I have sweet potato pies in the oven right at this moment. I still have a cake to bake, and potato salad to make. The potatoes haven't even been peeled. And, I'll get up during the night to put on the ham. My daughter is cooking the turkey and a casserole and my daughter-in-law is doing the rest. When it
all comes together, the meal will be delicious. We will eat until we almost burst, and there will be food to last for days!
As with the Christmas preparations, some people tend to leave their soul's plight until the last minute. As with the last minute details at Christmas, things can go wrong.
With buying gifts at the last moment, you are usually met with the fact that they no longer have the exact product you would love to purchase for that child or relative. And, then you are left with running all over town to find something else. You may have to buy something you
would otherwise not have bought. And, waiting until the last moment to cook can be a disaster! Cakes fall, and it takes awhile to recook. I've been known to burn things, as well. And, time is precious.
Time is precious with your soul. The Word doesn't assure us of another breath. Putting off making those final preparations could be detrimental to you. Each of us could live a wonderful long life, if we would give our hearts to the Lord when we are young. But, most people wait
until they are older. Some wait until they are almost on their death bed, literally.
This is the season to celebrate Christ's birth. What better time is there to make a dedication of your life to the Lord, and serve Him for the rest of your life, whether it will be for years, or days. We never know what tomorrow may bring.
God's Thoughts:
Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation)
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, we celebrate the birth of Christ at this time of year. For those who do not know you, I pray that they will learn of your grace and love. I pray they will come to know you as their personal Saviour before this season is gone. I give your praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
