I attended a funeral last Friday of a friend's brother. He was such a nice, likeable man. He was only 2 1/2 months older than me. I thought, 'how life can come to a close so quickly at any age'.
The first minister that spoke and eulogized this man was a life-long friend, having grown up on neighboring farms. He remembered how this man had lived for God when he was young. He said he was a man
unashamed to tell the world that he was a child of God. But, he lost track of that faith during his adult life, although he never failed to give GOD the honor for things in his life. I don't know the reasons for him
straying from the Lord. But, I do know his family members were concerned that he get right with God. I had talked about it before with his sister, my friend. But, yesterday, this minister laid to rest the thought that
perhaps he died without getting right with God. He had visited him in the hospital, where he laid after a stroke. He told him that he knew he could hear him, and if he could, give him some sign that he had gotten right with
the Lord. He quickly raised his arm, pointing to the sky. He had come full round - from boyhood and his love for God and his Word, through his adult life of straying from him, to once again acknowledge God as his Lord and Savior.
As long as we have breath, we have a chance to get right with God. But, once that last breath is drawn, we are in the hands of a just God. May each of you reading this know that you have the assurance of redemption through
the blood of Christ Jesus. If your hearts aren't right with Him at this moment, it is so easy to come to know Him intimately. Believe that he came to die for your sins, was hung on the cross, and arose again. Ask him to forgive you of your
sins, and believe that He has done so. Then, rejoice in that you are now a child of the King! He is coming again soon!
God's Thoughts:
Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, we know that the Word says that it's appointed unto to man once to die, and then the judgement. Help each of us know that we have the full assurance of eternity with you. We give you praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
