Our Thoughts:
Too often, we forget about how blessed we are. We take for granted our health. And, until we get sick, we give it no thought.
Tonight, we had stopped in a fast food restaurant in the store to get a fast burger and drink. This man spoke to me, and I almost didn't recognize him. He looked so much different
than he did a few months ago when we ran into him in another restaurant. We spoke for a minute, and he went over to talk with my husband. When my husband came to the table, he told me he didn't know
the guy. The man realized my husband didn't know him, and he told him he had lost lots of weight, because he was battling pancreas cancer. That put a big damper on our otherwise great night.
Things happen in our lives that leave a mark. Another friend of mine, with whom I graduated high school, died with esophagal cancer almost two years ago. She had only found out about a month
before Christmas, and by February she was gone. This was something very unexpected. But, cancer happens - it's no respector of persons. And, to see a friend dying of it is a heart-breaking thing. This is
why my husband was no longer interested in shopping after seeing this man tonight. He told me it made you stop and think of how much for which we had to be thankful!
As you go through this season, remember to give thanks for what you have. Tomorrow, you might not be where you are today, or have what you do today. You may be in dire need of help because of your health, loss of a job, or other things that happen
to those of us who are human. Each breath we breathe is a gift from God, so be sure to use those first breaths each day, and those last breaths each night, and those in between, to thank God for today and all the blessings He has brought your way.
God's Thoughts:
Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Colossians 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, often we slip and forget to be thankful for all those blessings you have provided for us. But, during this season, help us to remember that it was Your Son that made it possible for the most to be thankful for this season. He is the reason that we celebrate the season of Christmas, We give you praise! In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
