Is Your Religion in Vain?
Our Thoughts:
Humans love to talk. Sometimes we don't know when to stop. But, the tongue
can get us in trouble, by rattling off things which shouldn't be discussed. Some are quick to 'pass judgment' on others, to tell
of their faults. Yet, some think this is okay, and don't see it as a problem or fault. We fail to realize that passing
around 'tales' is the starting of gossip.
We need to learn to control the tongue, the most unruly member of our body. We need to learn to 'zip the lip', when
we hear things that seem to be of a nature we don't need to spread. Then, we won't be accused of gossiping.
If a person has to 'take more pains' to seem religious, then this is a sign their religion is in vain. A person with a slandering tongue can't
have a humble, gracious heart. True religion is doing everything we do as though we are in the sight of God. Before we begin to speak,
we should think, "Would God be pleased with me?". Lips of the righteous feed; they do not tear up.
God's Thoughts:
James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
Proverbs 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, teach us how and when to speak. Give us the words of wisdom we need to speak. We give you honor, praise and glory due your name. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
