Holding On To Your Security Blanket?
Our Thoughts:
What did you have for security, when you were a child, that you knew you could depend on?
Some had actual blankets they carried until they were ashamed to carry them any longer. I had a cousin that carried around one until it was
only the outer edges, but she kept hanging on. For me, it was my thumb - I could stick that in my mouth, when I was upset, scared, or too
shy to speak to anyone. I gave it up, needless to say, when I started school. I went home and told my Mother, "Have you noticed anything
different about me? I quit sucking my thumb. Nobody in my class does it." I was proud of my accomplishment. I did it all on my on. Oh, my
Mother had bent over backwards, trying to figure out a way to stop me from sucking my thumb. She tried everything, but nothing worked!! I had
to do it on my own.
Christians have security blankets - oh, it's not the thumb, but there are things that you hate to give up for the cause of
Christ. You feel you can keep 'holding on' and nobody will notice. BUT, God notices. He wants his children to grow up and be responsible,
just as our parents were nurturing us and showing us the way to grow up. We can't continue to drag our 'blanket' around, or 'suck our thumb',
and expect God to use us the way He would, if we had no insecurities. We just need to go to the Father, and find the peace
we need in order to give up these 'security blankets'.
God's Thoughts:
Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, help us release our insecurities to you, and be more responsible in our lives. We give you praise. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
