Watering Weeds? July 20,
2000
Our Thoughts:
We have had such a hot, dry summer this year. It seemed to have started out here with plenty of rain, but that was soon to
turn to no rain whatsoever, for a time. The flowers and trees that were flourishing in our yards and flower gardens seemed to need more care, more watering, in order just to
survive. I'm not talking 'looking good', but just to remain alive! Some have withered and died, and weeds have come up in their place. What is left of the few plants that have
survived give reason to believe this year would certainly have been the one in which to chose not to have a flower garden at all.
Our spiritual life is the same. We sometimes are watering plants that NEED to die, and not watering the 'new plants', or perhaps we haven't even gotten around to 'purchasing the new plants'
of life from God's Word. I'm speaking theoretically here, not literally. What I am suggesting is this: we often do not go back to the Word to renew our minds daily, in order to keep the enemy off our back.
What we do is this: we speak words of doubt and unbelief, which is 'watering weeds', not truly understanding the significance of what we say.
God's Thoughts:
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Proverbs 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Our Cup:
Heavenly Father, teach your children the importance of renewing our minds daily. Help us to search your Word in order to be equipped to withstand the wiles of the devil. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
