Hello from Barbara's Entourage
Are You Prepared?
Death is a part of life. But, when it comes unexpectedly, you wonder why. This week has been no exception, when it comes to death hitting unexpectedly. A community near us was badly shaken when a former prisoner (imprisoned for attempted murder) walked into the Funeral Home there and shot three people, two of whom who worked there. The other was a part-time casket salesman who just happened to come in that day. The regular funeral director had only stepped out for a few minutes to do an errand.
The deaths hit not only that community but others. One of the persons shot was a pastor's wife from another town. The other worker was a pastor of a church. Both of these people were highly esteemed in their communities, true lovers of God and people. And, we ask why, God?
Death will come to each of us; it's just a matter of when. I am sure not one of the three left home that morning expecting to be united with God before the day was over. But death comes when we least expect it. You've heard of relatives sitting with a dying person and they continue to live. But, the moment the room is empty, the person slips into eternity. These people were preparing a body for burial, and death slipped in, unexpectedly.
If your ticket isn't up-to-date for that appointment, why not get it updated today? There's no time to call out to Jesus, when death comes knocking. Let your light shine today for Jesus.
Psalms 43:3 O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
Heavenly Father, we know that we aren't promised tomorrow and death is sure. Help us to be prepared for your coming. Teach us to obey your commands and be obedient to your Word. We give you praise and honor and glory due your precious name. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

SNIPPET FROM THE MANTLE
A word or two from ......
Christianity Today Magazine
By: Mark Galli
In the last week, newspapers have spent a great deal of ink covering church prayer services. For this we Christians should be grateful. It's good for journalists and the larger community to see how essential the local church is to so many people.

"GOLD DUST" ON THE MANTLE

OUR DEAD
They are not all there --our dead--buried in the churchyard, beneath the grave, o'ershadowed by a cross, and round which the roses bloom.
There are others which nothing can recall: they are things which belong to the heart alone, and there alas! have found a tomb.
Peace surrounds me today; and here in my lone chamber I will invoke them, my much-beloved dead. Come!
By Charlotte M. Yonge - 1880 |
