TOP OF THE MANTLE

Hello from Barbara's Entourage

Individual Independence

Four of my grandchildren have played soccer for years. One of them has gone on to football, but the other three are still avid players! Tonight, I watched one of the grandson's walk with thousands of youths in the Alabama Sports Festival, a mini-Olympics-type gathering for youths of Alabama who participate in many sports. My grandson (you guessed it!) is in a soccer tournament this weekend.

As I saw these children marching in that center, waving those American flags, with smiles on their faces, I saw America as she could be - carefree and happy, without a trouble on the horizon. But, that's not to be, for we are a nation with troubles - death from suicides, murder, abortion and terrorism; a nation in trouble, spiritually, because we've left God behind for 'bigger and better things'. We've left God out of schools and out of our lives. We've taken out the pages of the WORD, and replaced them with laws that give man privileges than God never intended us to have. In other words, we've forgotten who GOD really is!

The Fourth of July is coming up this next weekend. We call it Independence Day, the celebration of the birth of our nation. Spiritually, there is an Independence Day - the day of our salvation and our separation from the powers of satan. He no longer has control of your life, unless you give it to him. The Holy Spirit now resides within, and through His power, you can deal with all things that the enemy sends your way.

Just as those athletes were free tonight, each of us can be free in Christ Jesus, when we make Him Lord of our life. Independence can be yours today; just follow Jesus from this day forward!

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Fire In The Belfry

<((< -- <((< -- <(< -- <((< -- <((< -- <((<

I'm going by the upper road, for that
still holds the sun,
I'm climbing through night's pastures where
the starry rivers run:
If you should think to see me in my
old dark abode,
You'll find this writing in the door,
"He's on the Upper Road."

The Seven Wonders of the World

A group of students was asked to list what they thought were the present Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student hadn't turned in her paper yet, so she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. TO SEE
2. TO TASTE
3. TO TOUCH
4. TO HEAR."

She hesitated a little, and then added,

"5. TO FEEL
6. TO LAUGH
7. AND TO LOVE."

The room was so full of silence you could have heard a pin drop. Those things we overlook as simple and ordinary are truly wondrous. This is a gentle reminder that the most precious things in life cannot be bought...but are gifts from above. (James 1:17)
