TOP OF THE MANTLE

Hello from Barbara's Entourage

Love

Being poor in life is not what people think of mostly. We picture in our minds people without a home, or perhaps an old run-down shack. We think of them being without a job, unable to pay the bills. We see them as having no car, or, if they do, it's a really old one. But, that's not what poor is about. Oh, I realize the dictionary explains poor as little or no wealth or possessions. But being poor is more than being without the worldly possessions.

I've seen many people in my lifetime that you might consider poor, or, at least, not having enough to call them wealthy by any means. But, they were happy, well-adjusted people. The one couple that comes to mind more than any other that fits this bill is my Daddy's parents. They both died in the late 1960's. My grandfather was retired all my life, and Granny kept house, took care of an invalid daughter, quilted, and made bread for the neighborhood almost every week. But, I don't think they ever thought of themselves as poor. In fact, I didn't even know what 'poor' was back then, or at least, I never considered any of us being poor. Because the one thing that we had was plenty of love.

We can have the 'world by the tail', our bank account running out at the seams, and never be happy, if we don't have love. God is love, and we are to emulate that love. Love (agape - Christian love - spiritual) should show in our every day life, and in our actions with others.

SPECIAL FEATURE DEVOTIONAL

Jesus answered, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life"

<((< -- <((< -- <(< -- <((< -- <((< -- <((<

Rubenstein, the great musician, once said, "If I omit practice one day, I notice it; if two days, my friends notice it; if three days, the public notice it." It is the old doctrine, "Practice makes perfect." We must continue believing, continue praying, continue doing His Will. Suppose along any line of art, one should cease practicing, we know what the result would be. If we would only use the same quality of common sense in our religion that we use in our everyday life, we should go on to perfection.

Cyber Psalm

The Lord is my programmer, I shall not crash.
He installed his software on the hard disk of my heart;
all of His commands are user-friendly.
His directory guides me to the right choices for His name's sake.
Even though I scroll through the problems of life,
I will fear no bugs, for He is my backup.
His password protects me.
He prepares a menu before me in the presence of my enemies.
His help is only a keystroke away.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
and my file will be merged with His and saved forever.
Amen.

"GOLD DUST" ON THE MANTLE

O Jesus, in search of lips to tell the love Thou bearest for Thy children; lips to tell teh poor and lonely they are not despised the sinful they are not cast away, the timid they are not unprotected. O Jesus! grant that my lips may speak words of strength, love, comfort, and pardon. Let each day seem to me wasted that passes without my having spoken of help and sympathy, without having made some one bless Thy Name, be it but a little child.
