Hello from Barbara's Entourage

Every summer, our daughter's children come to stay with us during the week while Mom works. We live a long distance from her, so they spend the week, from Monday morning until Friday afternoon, most weeks. The little boys are very rambunctious, very active boys, who love to fight with each other, although they'd go that extra mile to take up for one another, if someone else was attacking them! So this year, before school was out, Papa had a little talk with her little boys.

Now, when Papa steps in and says something, they know he means it, and that he expects them to obey. He sat them down on their couch, told them to 'listen up', and proceeded to describe to them what he expected of them while they were at our home, and what was going to happen if they didn't obey. He knew that all the talking in the world wasn't going to take the little boy out of them, the part that 'just has' to do a little mischief to see if they can get away with it. And, being 'loving' little boys that they are, they just have to aggravate each other enough to rattle our brains, before they decide to give up and treat each other with respect. But, he wanted harmony in our house, and not chaos. And, I have to admit, he was looking after Nanny's nerves.

Like Papa, our Heavenly Father expects us to live according to His commandments. And, when there is a diversion from those commandments, He, like Papa, will chasten us. That's not a mean God, but a loving FATHER. He wants His children to be the best they can, to listen with their ears to what He is asking of them, and to show with their actions that they are going to be faithful in obeying Him.

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Grilled Steak or Salmon with Herb Butter

This butter recipe is wonderful served with any grilled meat. As it melts into the hot steak, the aroma that drifts up is irresistible!

1 cup fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup toasted pistachios
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 tablespoons butter, softened (ONLY use butter!!)
Salt and pepper
6 salmon steaks or rib-eye steaks

In food processor or blender, combine all ingredients except steaks. Process till blended. Cover the blended butter and chill this mixture and then form it into a roll 1" in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill until firm.

Prepare grill. Grill steaks 4-6" above medium coals, turning once with tongs, until steak is cooked to desired doneness and salmon flakes when tested with fork. OR place on broiler pan and broil 4-6" from heat source for 10-15 minutes, turning once with tongs, until steak is cooked to desired doneness and salmon flakes when tested with a fork. Let the meat sit for about 5 minutes before serving, then slice the chilled butter and place on top of the hot steak, letting it melt into the meat.. Serves 6

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

A collector of rare books ran into an acquaintance who told him he had just thrown away an old Bible that he found in a dusty, old box. He happened to mention that Guten-somebody-or-other had printed it.

"Not Gutenberg?" gasped the collector.

"Yes, that was it!"

"You goober! You've thrown away one of the first books ever printed. A copy recently sold at auction for half a million dollars!"

"Oh, I don't think this book would have been worth anything close to that much," replied the man.

"It was scribbled all over in the margins by some clown named Martin Luther."
