Hello from Barbara's Entourage

We are half way through summer, and school will begin in a few weeks. I can remember the time when I was happy to see summer, and we could enjoy the time with our children. We would often have our vacation planned for the first weeks in June, or the first few weeks in August. Of course, whatever time we chose, it always seemed to rain. But, we still enjoyed summer vacation.

Summer has become a time for baby sitting for grandmother. Actually, I'm not baby sitting, but grandson sitting - or, make that plural. The saying 'if one is good, two must be better' is not the case here. I love my grandchildren very much, but when you have two rambunctious, over-energetic boys that are only two years apart, you have your hands full, believe me. You have fussing, which isn't present with one, twice the open doors, and twice the stomachs to fill up. :)

Although it's tough to be keeping grandchildren at my age, and I sometimes want to send them home (how about often!), I still enjoy them being around. At their ages, they have many questions, but also knowledge that didn't seem to be in children years ago. The questions run from one end of the spectrum to the other. And, the knowledge that comes out of their mouths sometimes can floor you! They are wise beyond their years!

If we listen to children, they will bring understanding to the Word. The Bible teaches we must become as little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. Children are eager to learn, very teachable, and question almost everything. If it doesn't sound right to them, they keep asking. Or, if the answer they get to a particular question doesn't satisfy them, they will keep asking until they get the right answer. And, what they learn while they are young will forever stay with them. I can remember things I learned about the Word when I was very young. And, I see those same things being talked about by my grandchildren, but they have more questions. It brings to mind the day my ten year old grandson told me about David. His conception of what he had learned was that David was a bad man, in that he had a wife, took the wife of another man and had a child. And, then he sent that woman's husband to the front lines of a big battle just to get him killed. To me, he said, "Nanny, that was very mean in David to do that". And, he was right, but we all do things in sin that we are some day going to be sorry for doing. Adultery isn't understood in the eyes of a child, but the deeds of sin are.

We need to renew our minds daily, that we should become humble and simple as children. We should always be willing to want to learn more, not think we know it all. When we get the idea that there's nothing else to learn, or that we know more about something than someone else, we are setting ourselves up for a fall.

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

A minister was called away unexpectedly by the illness of a close family member. He entrusted his new assistant with filling the pulpit. The Pastor's wife stayed home. When he returned, the minister asked his wife what she thought of the young man's sermon.

"The poorest I've ever heard," she said. "There was nothing in it, nothing at all. It didn't even make sense. It was very unorganized. I was disappointed."

"All went very well, sir, absolutely wonderful," he said. "I didn't have time to prepare a new sermon of my own on such short notice, so I got on your computer and pulled up one of your old sermon's from last year."

A word or two from ......

Faith News Network

BEIJING, CHINA -- A 34 year old woman has been beaten to death by police after she was arrested for handing out Bibles in southwest China’s Guizhou province.

The French News Agency (AFP) quoted China's state run Legal Daily newspaper as saying that police in Guizhou’s Tongzi county arrested Jiang Zongxiu, a farmer, on June 18 on suspicion of “spreading rumors and inciting to disturb social order." They had planned to detain her for 15 days, the report said, alleging Jiang died in police custody the afternoon she was arrested.
