Hello from Barbara's Entourage

God's Retirement Plan

Everybody who works looks forward to the day they can retire, settle back, and take life easy. Some get to retire early, like my husband, due to the company's plan for which they work. Others have to work until the Government's retirement age, which varies now from 65 to a few months thereafter, according to when you were born.

We always view retirement as an easy life, but most of the time, that's not so. We don't always go into retirement with exactly what we need for the rest of our lives. Some of us live longer lives than others, and perhaps require lots of medication, due to sickness, or diseases. And, the company, from which we retire, might not give us the insurance we need in order to fulfill those prescriptions/doctor visits, etc. And, insurance is, by no means, cheap anymore, if you have to arrange for it on your own. So, it's back to work for those who aren't totally prepared.

But, God's retirement plan is different. His requirements (commandments) are not grievous. He has no plan of health care; He is our Healer. You don't have to file for retirement or take a seminar in retiring as most companies require. And, you don't have to have a big savings account. You need only be ready to 'retire' when His plan calls your name.

As an email, that I received this morning, said, "Working for God on this earth doesn't pay much. But His Retirement Plan is out of this world"!

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Psalms 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

We sometimes seem to forget that when God takes HE TAKES in fire; and that the only way to resurrection life and ascension mount is the way of the garden, the cross, and the grave.

Think not, O soul of man that Abraham's was a unique and solitary experience. It is simply a specimen and pattern of God's dealings with all souls who are prepared to obey Him at whatever costs. After thou has patiently endured, thou shalt receive the promise. The moment of supreme sacrifice shall be the moment of supreme and rapturous blessing. God's river, which is full of water, shall burst it's banks and pour upon thee a tide of wealth and grace. There is nothing, indeed, which God will not do for a man who dares to step out upon what seems to be the mist; though as he puts down his foot, he finds a Rock beneath him.

Squash Casserole

2 pounds yellow squash, coarsely cubed
1 large onion, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper, or more
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup saltine crackers, crumbled
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped

Place the squash, onion, salt, and pepper in a large saucepan. Add as little water as you dare, none if you can keep the heat low and stir the squash every minute or two, and 1/2 inch of water if you have other things on your mind. Cover and cook the squash until soft, stirring now and then to prevent scorching. Drain the squash, then return it to the pan or a bowl and stir in the butter. Taste and add more pepper if wanted. (Squash can use plenty of it.) Check for salt, too.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 1 1/2-quart baking dish well. Stir the crumbled crackers into the squash, and turn into the casserole. Pour the milk over the squash and sprinkle with the cheese and pecans. Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes, until the milk is absorbed, the squash is bubbly, and the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven, let stand 5 minutes, then served hot. This recipe is easily doubled. Bake it in a large shallow baking dish to permit evaporation of moisture in the squash.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

An area pastor tells of his first Sunday in the new parish and presenting the children's message. Seems the sanctuary in the new church had some magnificent stained glass windows, so his message centered on how each of us is called of God to help make up the whole picture. Like the pictures in the windows, it takes many little panels of glass to make the whole picture.

And then he said, "You see each one of you is a little pane." And then pointing to each child, "You're a little pane. And you're a little pane. And you're a little pane. And..."

It took a few moments before he realized why everyone was laughing so hard.

A word or two from ......

FaithNews Network

Although many fans predicted Mel Gibson's blockbuster, The Passion of the Christ, would have an intense and long-lasting spiritual impact, a Christian researcher's survey has revealed that the movie-going public has a short memory and an easily re-directed attention span.

"Head knowledge makes you smart; heart knowledge makes you HIS!"

1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
