Hello from Barbara's Entourage

God Is With Us

Again, we approach the Christmas season, with anticipation. But, with what anticipation do we approach it? Anticipation of a great holiday? Anticipation of many gifts given to us, or those we give to others? Anticipation of a great meal prepared by others?

Thousands of years ago, a baby was born in Bethlehem. His family was turned away from the Inn, so they had to go to the town's stables, where the baby was born, and had to be laid in a manger. Wise men came to worship Him. They presented him with gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. How many times have you ever seen this happen to a family who was expecting a baby - to be turned away from a hospital in the time of arrival of that baby, and then to be presented with such expensive gifts? I dare say, 'never'.

This baby is the reason Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year for Christians. Not only do we celebrate with our families, giving gifts. But, we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the baby born on that day, so many years ago. It was in God's plan for His Son to be born, not in wealth, but just as another family in that day would have had their child. It must have seemed like poverty, to have to bear a child in a stable. But, what wealth God had planned for those who followed after this child! Mary knew she carried a special child in her womb. Joseph, perhaps, by this time, understood this also. But, a Mother holds life in her hands (in her womb), and it's so much different than just knowing you are about to become a father. There's a connection there that bonds you both together. I think it's from the moment of conception. Mary conceived through the Holy Ghost, and she probably felt unworthy, and perhaps scared, knowing people would think of her as a loose woman. But, she obeyed and bore the Son of God, in the flesh, who would become the world's Saviour one day.

As we come closer to Christmas Day, remember that this season belongs to the Lord. HE is the reason that we celebrate, or He should be the reason. Too many times, we get caught up in gift buying, decorating, and enjoying the scenes in the stores and on homes, that we forget to give GOD thanks that He sent His Son that we 'might have life', and have it more abundantly. Salvation is ours today because of His love for us.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

Suffering is a wonderful fertilizer to the roots of character. The great object of this life is character. This is the only thing we can carry with us into eternity. . . . To gain the most of it and the best of it is the object of probation.

If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.

In the Netherlands, legalized euthanasia has reached a new and horrifying low. According to Associated Press reports, a Dutch hospital recently proposed guidelines for killing terminally ill newborns and then made an even more startling revelation -- it had already begun carrying out such procedures.

Joy, Humor, and Faith on the net!

There was this rabbi in a small town, and he was really curious about why so many people ate pork. He really wanted to try some, but there was no where in town he could go and not be seen. One weekend, he made an excuse and traveled to a distant town, went into a restaurant, and ordered the first pork item on the menu.

While he's waiting for his order of pork, the president of his congregation walks in. He sees the rabbi and asks if he could join him for dinner, and the rabbi has no choice but to agree. A while later, the waiter returns with the rabbi's meal. He takes the cover off the large platter, and there is a whole roast pig, with an apple in its mouth. The congregation president is more than a little shocked.

"What a fancy place," explains the rabbi quickly. "Just look at how they serve the apple I ordered."
