Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

Today marks the Inauguration of our Forty-Third President of the United States. Imagine how far this nation has come, since the inauguration of Washington as the first President. Horse and buggy days have given into cars, taxis, trains, airplanes, and motorcycles. Washing clothes in the creek and scrubbing on the rub-board, or boiling your clothes in a wash pot over an open fire, has given away to electric or gas washing machines, laundromats, or cleaners. Traveling doctors have made their way into the biggest and finest suites in big office buildings, or large hospitals. Corn cob dolls, marbles, paper dolls, and such, have given way to the television, the Nintendo, or Play Station. Children now want scooters, go carts, or off-road motorbikes in the place of those old bicycles.

This is progress. As long as we work at it, progress will continue. If people use their talents to learn new things, make new products, then our nation will advance along rapidly. It's when we begin to sit on the side lines, forgetting that our talent is needed, that the nation begins to decline.

God started the universe; he made this nation. He sat us here for his use and he takes pleasure in his people. But, have we strayed from God in this nation? I believe we have. God has been moved 'over in the corner', only to be seen as someone we call on when we _need help_. It's expected of the Attorney General nominee to 'abandon his faith', if he's to be an effective Attorney General. But, this isn't going to be the case. In his own words he has stated that his religious beliefs compel him to do his job by the law, not by his convictions. Senator Ashcroft has been nominated by the President, and has similar views as the President. I believe, with this administration, that good morals will once again be seen as a legitimate part of the character of a person in public office.

Let's keep President Bush and his appointees in our prayers!

1 Corinthians 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.

As a nation, we always mark our major events with major food outlays. We, the people, know that it's not Thanksgiving without turkey and pumpkin pie, the Fourth of July without barbecue and ice cream, Super Bowl Sunday without chips and beer

Thy Kingdom Come

O Jesus, Thy kingdom is withiin my heart, reign there in all Thy sovereignty and power, reign there absolutely?

My King! what dost Thou require of me today? Thy commandments, my rule of life, my daily duties, --these are Thy commands that I will promise to obey; more than that, I will regard all in authority over me as Thine Ambassadors, speaking to me in Thy Name. What matters the tone or the harshness of the order?

What does it signify if some unexpected command upsets all my previous plans? It is Thy Vice I hear, Thou Lord, Whom I will obey always, and in all things.

Thy kingdom is also in the hearts of others; and there would I see Thee reigning. Then to whom can I speak of Thee this day? What counsels can I givee? What moments may I seize, in which, without wounding the feelings, or parading my zeal, I may be allowed to speak a few words of piety? Lord, let me have the opportunity to help another to love Thee!
