Hello from Barbara's Entourage!

This week, we have the Valentine holiday coming up. Many are blessed to have spouses, boyfriends, or girlfriends with which they will exchange cards or gifts to show their love and appreciation. But, there are many out there hurting, because there will be no valentine, no candy, or gift coming - there is no friend or spouse that will remember this day for them. So, they feel let down, out of place, and perhaps offended by the very mention of Valentine's Day.

What can we, as Christians, do in order to help these people through a difficult time in their lives? I am sure each of us can recall a time when we didn't have a person to depend on during this holiday season. And, I am sure we know at least one person who has no spouse - perhaps their spouse has gone on before them, and they are living alone. Why not make it a better day for that person that you know - give him or her a special valentine, a call on the phone, or perhaps a box of candy or a flower to let them know that they are loved. They will be blessed by your kindness, and you will be blessed by God.

Psalms 41:1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

Hot Air Balloon - Republican / Democrat encounter

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced the altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted. "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The woman replied, "You are in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be a Republican," said the balloonist. "I am," said the woman. "How did you know?" "Well", answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."

The woman below responded. "You must be a Democrat." "I am" replied the balloonist, but how did you know?" "Well," said the woman, "You don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."

Forrest Gump dies & goes to Heaven. He is met by St. Peter, but the pearly gates are closed. Forrest approaches and St. Peter says, "Well, Forrest, It's certainly good to see you because we've heard a lot about you. Unfortunately Heaven is filling up fast so we started giving an entrance examination to everyone. You will need to pass before you can get into Heaven.

Forrest responds, "It shore is good to be here in Heaven, St. Peter. I was looking forward to this but nobody ever told me about an entrance exam. I sure hope the test isn't too hard: life was a big enough test as it was!"

St. Peter goes on, "Yes, I know Forrest, and I'm sorry, but the test I have for you is only three questions. First, what days of the week begin with the letter T? Second, how many second are there in a year? And third, what is God's first name?"

Forrest goes away and returns the next day. St. Peter says "Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, please tell me your answers". Forrest says, "Well, the first one, 'how many days of the week begin with the letter T, is an easy one. That'd be 2, Today & Tomorrow." The saint's eyes open wide & he exclaims "Forrest! That's not what I was thinking, but...you do have a point and I didn't specify, so I'll give you credit for the answer".

"How about the next one?" says St Peter. "How many seconds in a year?" "Now that one's harder", says Forrest, "but I guess the only answer can be twelve". Astounded, St Peter says"Twelve! Twelve! Forrest, how did you come up with twelve seconds in a year?" Forrest says "Well, shucks, there's gotta be twelve, January second, February second, March second...."

"Hold it" interrupts St Peter. "I see where you're going with it. And I guess I see your point, though that wasn't quite what I had in mind, But I'll give you credit for that one too. Let's go on with the next question. Can you tell me God's first name?" Forrest replied "Andy"...when St Peter asked how in the world he came up with the name Andy, Forrest replied, "in the Song - 'Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me'..."

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

How blessed, O Lord, to depend only upon Thee...behold me. Thy child, waiting with outstretched hand to receive thy benefits.

Grant me my temporal blessings,---clothing, nourishment, shelter...but not too much of anything; and let me have the happiness of sharing my blessings with those poorer than myself today. Grant me the blessing of intelligence, that I may read, or hear one of those golden counsels that elevate the soul; and lend wings to the thoughts.

Grant me the loving heart, O my FATHER! that I may feel for a moment how I love Thee, and Thy love towards me; let me sacrifice myself for the welfare of another. Give me the Bread of Life, the Holy Eucharist! I have just received it, Lord! Grant me again ere long that great blessing.

And then, give all these blessings to those I love, and who love me!
